We're not shooting a skit this week, though we do have one almost ready to post next friday.

I'm really wondering about the direction we should take Flapping Crane in. I enjoy doing these skits. I could do them forever (and we've got a ton of skits waiting to be done). But we've been kicking around ideas for a short film.

This would be a big change from the way we normally do things. With short skits, we don't have to worry too much about continuity or even the strength of our acting. Not that the acting is bad. Eric, in particular, is very good. I just know that I'd probably concentrate more on production and post-production, since I'm pretty weak in the acting department. I'd probably have a small acting role, but until I get better, I don't want to ruin an otherwise potentially decent short film.

There's two or three possibilities for the film. Pete has had two good ones. He wants to do a kind of suspense/horror thing, and maybe a weird arty thing. The other possibility is something more in line with what we've been doing — weird, crazy humor.

The horror thing is something I want to do, though doing something that's not comedy is kind of intimidating since acting skills will be much more important. I mean, even with our skits, if someone doesn't think one is funny, they can still just say, “Ok, that was bizarre.” If our acting flops in a horror movie, then it'll just be bad. No, I'm not inclined to do a Troma-type film.

Plus, we are a comedy group. I don't have a problem doing more serious stuff, but I worry about the confusion it will cause for people who are used to our regular thing. Eh.

Another problem will be time. Most of us have full-time jobs. So we'd have to shoot on weekends, which would mean no new skits for a while.

Oh, and I'd insist that we not allow anyone to drink beer until after we wrap for the day. :)|||111427467109619816|||Killer Cats
