4/22/2005 04:51:00 PM|||Joe|||All right. Here's hoping this looks decent in most browsers.
It should, in theory, look good in IE6/Win. But I was only able to indirectly test it.
The gigantic image at the top is one of 17 random pics that will come up on every page. I'm sure I'll add more. Whee.
There are a few things that most likely won't show up in any version of Internet Explorer. The headers for the link sections on the right, for one thing. That's because IE doesn't seem to support content and maybe the :before pseudo-element. Oh well. I don't need to use them, but I think it's snazzy. So there.
I imagine people with dial-up won't like this page, with those 17 huge images. Eh.
I dread going into work on Monday. I have a feeling IE6/Win will render this page to look like something that went through a blender. I need Virtual PC or something.
I'd like to eventually move away from Blogger. I don't like the idea of trying to strong-arm my design(s) into yet another weird template system, though. At least Blogger's is pretty simple. I don't like the whole "publishing" thing, though. It makes it hard to correct some problems. Plus, there's the problem of moving all the old posts into a new system.
You know, there is one definite advantage to working in a non-technical job. Screwing around with PHP, MySQL, CSS, etc. is actually fun again. As nerdy as that might sound.
I'm even thinking about buying a cheap, old(ish) used PC to put Linux or BSD on to act as a local DNS. Comcast's has been flaky lately (DNS Cache Poisoning, maybe? Beats me). I can get around that problem (just specify other DNSs), so I don't need my own DNS, but it might be fun to mess with. I dunno. Toss on an 802.11b or g card and I can just stuff it in a corner somewhere. Maybe if it's got a parallel port I can have it host my old HP Laserjet. Parallel port, ya know.
Ok, I now conclude the most random, rambling entry to date.|||111421396395268652|||New Design
