I have an account on friendster, myspace, Yahoo! 360 and Orkut. I'm probably forgetting one.

It's too much. I can't keep track of this crap. There are some I check more than others, but it's become a chore.

As far as I can tell, MySpace is awful. People put up these screwed up backgrounds which make it impossible to read the text. It's like 1997 all over again.

The last one I signed up for is Yahoo! 360. It's cool and all, but I'm tired of filling out what my musical interests are, what books I like, blah blah blah. LIKE ANYBODY CARES. No, I don't care what music you like either. Since when did this crap define anyone as a person? “I'm unique because I like this corporate-backed music.” It's this weird vanity thing — as if people care whether I like Fight Club or not.

In the words of What's-His-Face-Speare: "It's a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." No insult to my friends, it's just a general comment.

Plus there's the sneaking suspicion that these companies are all combing through this info and want to sell me crap.

On the upside, the social networking thing is neat. I can track down people through other friends and see who is up to what. But to keep up with all these is ridiculous. And most of them don't offer independent RSS feeds for users, which would really simplify things for me.

The screwed up thing is that many people, like me, have accounts on multiple ones. So how is there competition? Everyone's using everything. It's silly.|||112889917629870097|||Too Much Social Networking!10/09/2005 04:24:00 PM|||Blogger Scooter|||I thought the first rule of Fight Club was not to tell people you've watched Fight Club?10/09/2005 04:50:00 PM|||Blogger Joe|||And the second rule.10/10/2005 11:24:00 AM|||Blogger cczernia|||An rss feed would be nice to combine them.

Myspace seems to be the most popular which I don't understand why. Friendster seemed like the exact same thing.
