For those of you who don't know, I've started a podcast with some Jason Wyatt and Vanessa High. It's called Wrestle that Shark. It's about philosophy. The idea is that we each have a beer and have a discussion. When our beer is done, so is the podcast.
We've only done two episodes, and we're having the conversations with a combination of nutty technology. Vanessa's on Skype, and Jason's calling me on Skype with his cell phone. So there's latency, though I can usually edit that down. Aside from that, we're still getting the hang of the format, so don't expect anything spectacular yet. Not that it's easy to make discussions of natural rights spectacular for everyone anyway. :)
You can subscribe to it or download individual episodes at wrestlethatshark.com.|||113054676512975812|||Wrestle that Shark10/28/2005 12:29:00 PM|||Joe|||
New skit up. Yay. It's Kite-Flying Bryann. We actually went through several versions of this one... this version is a bit of a compromise. I'm thinking I'll put the other versions as bonuses on the DVD.
And no, the compromises had nothing to do with the potentially offensive content. :) It was more to do with when the music started and ended, and the length of the exchange of looks.|||113052794517635970|||Kite-Flying Bryann10/27/2005 08:10:00 AM|||Joe|||Wow, BTTF has done very well. It's now our number 5 skit (though, because of the way the listing works, BTTF won't be listed in the top 5 until it's not a "recent" skit), beating out Killer Cats. That makes some of us very happy. The only reason Killer Cats is in the top 5 is because people really like to search for "funny cats". Though I do like that one. But I digress.
New one coming tomorrow. It's another quickie. We're on a quickie kick right now. People are more likely to watch and enjoy the short ones. I believe I discussed this before — everyone on the internet has ADHD.|||113042956901919991|||Semi-Hit10/21/2005 02:18:00 PM|||Joe|||Maybe I shouldn't press my luck by bringing this up, but I haven't got any comment spam yet. I'm not sure why. Granted, I don't get a ton of traffic (about 1,000 hits or 150 unique visits per day, though, for various reasons, it's probably more accurately 50-60% of those numbers). Maybe that's it, though I've noticed that friends of mine do get it.
Maybe it's because I'm not hosted on blogspot, or maybe because I've changed my template enough (though I'm pretty sure most CSS classes and IDs are similar or the same) that bots pass it over. You know what? It may be the way that the "Comment" link works at the end of each post... on normal templates, I think it leads directly to the page where you can enter comments. Mine doesn't -- it just links to an anchor on the post's page where the comments are.
Of course, maybe this counts as comment spam.|||112993011537615341|||Comment Spam10/21/2005 03:31:00 PM||| cczernia|||I had to switch to registered user only so I wouldn't get spam. You think they would add that "type in the words for the img" thing that a ton of other sites have. Oh, Just so you don't feel left out.

This week's skit is BTTF. As in Back to the Future.
I wasn't sure about this one until I got it edited together with music, etc. But I think it's pretty funny.
Now... EVERYBODY DANCE! I have no idea why I typed that.|||112990838972911802|||BTTF10/21/2005 07:56:00 AM|||Joe|||I love this garbage.
So an astrologer predicts the time of his own death. He's wrong, but only because "... many of those gathered had prayed for him to live."
Ok, I predict that in 20 minutes I'll be part of a miracle birth. I (a male) will give birth to a baby giraffe. If I succeed, I am a magical person. If I fail, it is because enough of you prayed for me not to do it, since it would likely kill me.
Either way, spooky magic works!|||112990682942860707|||Astrologer Fails to Kill Self10/21/2005 01:55:00 PM||| Queen Geek|||Actually I'm praying that it will work because, I'm sadistic like that. tee hee10/14/2005 12:44:00 PM|||Joe|||Seriously, it's happening. I'm working on the move to Wordpress. I've started modifying the default theme. I'm shooting for a design very similar to what I've got here, but it may have some minor differences.
The real fun part will be trying to get my custom theme to work with IE. So far... not so good.
Once I get the design done comes the real trick. Importing all my old posts and everyone's comments. Yup. We'll see.|||112931943132560817|||Moving to Wordpress10/19/2005 10:05:00 AM||| Joe|||Yeah, but part of the problem is that I don't want to relocate the old stuff, since that would break links. A lot of people were saying before the announcement that bringing out the video iPod so soon after the Nano would undercut the sales of the Nano. I don't know if anyone else has made this connection, but the Nano was a replacement for the iPod Mini, which was (as far as I know) the best-selling iPod. So if the 4G iPods weren't seen as undercutting the Mini, I don't see the problem here, either.
I'm sure people will quote the tired "bang for the buck" line, but it didn't work when applied to the Mini, so I'm not sure that it's applicable here.
The main difference here, of course, is that the new iPod has some major functionality that the Nano doesn't, whereas the only difference between the 4G iPods and the Minis was form factor and disk space. On the other hand, Apple has its high-end and quasi-high-end products, just like it always has (or at least since the introduction of the iMac way back when).
All that said, I really do want the new iPod, but I'll wait until the next generation or two. Not because I want to wait for bigger, better iPods, but because I already forked over the $300 for my 20GB iPod last year, and I figure it'll be useful for several years. In fact, it better.|||112924482193016142|||Video iPod and iPod Nano
